Nagaon University is a state public university of Assam with a rich academic legacy rooted in the historic town of Nagaon. The University traces its origin to Nowgong College, established in 1944, one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education in central Assam. In recognition of its academic excellence and administrative preparedness, the college was granted autonomous status in 2020. With the enactment of The Nagaon University Act, 2023 by the Government of Assam, Nowgong College (Autonomous) was further upgraded to Nagaon University, marking a significant milestone in the region’s educational journey. The upgradation reflects the long-standing demand of the people of Assam and the institution’s consistent contribution to higher education, research, and societal development.
