About the School

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Gandey ,Giridih was established on 14th September ,1994 in a small welfare hostel, provided by the district administration,23 km away from the present location. The Vidyalaya was shifted from temporary site to permanent site, but again in temporary building, in December 1997.In spite of poor infrastructure and the least facilities, Vidyalaya had flourished well and set itself as a model school in the district as well as in Patna Region. However, Vidyalaya had succeeded to procure well constructed permanent building on permanent site in July, 2002. The Vidyalaya is situated in the lap of nature at Gandey block which is about 24 kms., away from the district headquarter, Giridih, and 8 kms from the nearest railway station Maheshmunda located on the way to Madhupur-Giridih railway route. The name Gandey has its historical significance as it is named in accordance with the bow of Mahabharata Arjuna. Peaceful atmosphere, favourable breeze blowing through out the year, peculiar climatic conditions ,fresh air altogether attract a person to enjoy its charming fascination magnificent surrounding at its best. Khandoli Dam is 15 km away from here is another gift of God which provides feast to the eyes. The students of this Vidyalaya have left impressive footprints in National level in all disciplines like Academic ,Art ,Music ,Games &Sports and in various co-curricular activities. The fabrics of education have always run smoothly with the joint efforts of Academic teams .The products of the Vidyalaya have crowned in various dignified posts in administration, Medical, Engineering professions, IT, and other professions.. Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose, famous scientist lived at Giridih during his last years of his life and a Science Musium is also maintained at the place of his living. Even after 73 years of his demise the locker containing his inventions are still laying unopened. Gandey and Giridih both are unique in nature, suitable place for living on this motherly earth.
