Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University honours a mediaeval Assamese Vaishnava saint and social reformer. The Assam government established the first sports university in the north east of India in Chabua, Dibrugarh. The university prioritises sport sciences, physical education, and related fields. The Hon'ble Governor of Assam assented to the Assam Legislative Assembly Act (No. LGL. 164/2018/7) on 10 December 2018. This university trains top sports scientists, physical educationists, coaches, and researchers in sport psychology, exercise science, biomechanics, medicine, physiotherapy, health education, sport technology, and analytics. We prepare professionals and sport entrepreneurs for the competitive global job market. The university plans to build world-class facilities for elite athletes to increase India's medal count in international sports competitions. It also wants to recruit Assamese and neighbouring talent. The university will promote physical activity and sport as a lifestyle through its outreach programmes.
